UNC (UNIVERSAL NAMING CONVENTION)
A way to identify a shared file on a computer network without having to state, or even to know, exactly where it is located (the drive letter, for instance). SHARE (see also) names can define virtual volumes, hiding the directory structure above and making location of files more simple.
