I'M ALIVE™
(HG) HigherGround's trademarked pro-active automated status monitoring system in which all HigherGround customers' systems report in at least once a day to the HigherGround offices to say that they are "OK." HigherGround Client Support technicians follow up with any units that don't report in, serving to remedy any problems as soon as possible.

INCOMING CALL IDENTIFICATION (ICI)
On the operator console, it is an identification of the trunk that is calling in. It is done by a light and number that is associated to a specific trunk, or, in some cases, by a liquid quartz display that spells out the information. On a station, some systems will identify the other internal calling station by the calling party's station number and some systems also display the name assigned to that station. The amount of information displayed depends on the system.

INPUT/OUTPUT (I/O)
The different ways that information is put into a system and gotten out of a system. Input can be a trunk, a telephone or a data port on the telephone system. Output can be the same. Output can also be SMDR and AIOD. For computers, I/O devices include the keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer, speakers, etc

INSTANT RETRIEVAL
(HG) HigherGround's software module that allows for searching for and playing back voice recordings. Instant Retrieval includes advanced playback features including playback of sequential and multiple synchronous recordings, looping, playback speed control, automatic gain control and more. The Instant Retrieval module is also the user interface used when playing back recordings from HigherGround's Report Commander.

INTERCOM NUMBER
A number that is given to a station that is normally only one or two digits making it easier to call than the three or four-digit station number. It normally has a separate button on the station set to allow the prime number to be put on hold

INTERLATA
From one LATA (see also) to another. Usually refers to telephone calls or other communications traffic within the same state (see INTRASTATE).

INTRALATA
Within a LATA (see also). IntraLATA calls are those made within the caller's LATA

INTRASTATE
Within the state. Calls made to parties within the same state as the caller are intrastate calls.

INWARD WIDE AREA TELEPHONE SERVICE (INWATS)
Inbound telephone number where the called party pays for the call. Also called a TOLL-FREE NUMBER.

IP (INTERNET PROTOCOL)
The standard method of exchanging data between computers on the Internet by dividing data into packets and labeling each packet with address information that tells computers along the way on the Internet where to forward the data. See also TCP/IP.

IVR (INTERACTIVE VOICE RESPONSE)
Sometimes INTEGRATED VOICE RESPONSE. A specialized CTI (see also) application that offers users spoken prompts or menus and allows callers to interact with the phone system through key presses or through verbal commands processed by SPEECH RECOGNITION (see also) software
