HARD DISK (HARD DISK DRIVE OR HARD DRIVE)
An enclosed device containing one or more rigid metal magnetic disks. Hard disks provide much greater storage capacity than floppy diskettes (thousands of times greater) and are also much faster than floppy disks.

HEADER
The leading portion of an information block or packet that contains information or instructions pertaining to that data.

HERTZ
A unit of FREQUENCY (see also) that is equal to one cycle per second.

HOBIC (HOTEL BILLING INFORMATION CENTER)
A service of the telephone companies that provide hotels with immediate charges for the calls placed by guests. Also refers to the text record format this system uses which is a standard for importing call data into many hotel Property Management Systems (PMS). (HG) HigherGround Data Connectors can collect SMDR or CDR data from a PBX, cost and mark-up the calls, and send the data to a PMS in the HOBIC format. HUNT GROUP
A feature of the PBX that routes calls to a pre-selected group of stations to find a non-busy station. Hunting can be arranged in a variety of ways depending on the software of the system used.
